(active 1972 to 1982) Sweden
Formed in Stockholm, the group consisted of Agnetha Faltskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. The became famous thanks to Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. Their appeal to gay audience derived from the straitlaced image projected of a boys-and-girls-next door - they were so straight to be camp!
Some of their songs became disco anthems among gay audience, real peans of sexual freedom. The Australian movie Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) strongly revived the interest in this group. "Abba" was disbanded in 1982, although they did a reunion in 1896, in 2008 and later in 2016.
