"Abba"
(active 1972 - ?) Sweden

Pop group
Formed in Stockholm, the group consisted of Agnetha Faltskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. The became famous thanks to Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. Their appeal to gay audience derived from the straitlaced image projected of a boys-and-girls-next door - they were so straight to be camp!
Some of their songs became disco anthems among gay audience, real peans of sexual freedom. The Australian movie Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) strongly revived the interest in this group.
Their hits include:
- Waterloo (1974)
- Money, Money, Money
- The Name of the Game
- Dancing Queen
- Gimme! Gimme! Gimme (a Man after Midnight)
