Aluísio Azevedo (April 14, 1857 - January 21, 1913) Brazil Writer, caricaturist, journalist, diplomat Azevedo was born Aluísio Tancredo Gonçalves de Azevedo in São Luís do Maranhão, and died in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is the author of "O cortiço" (The Tenement), an early lesbian-themed novel.
