Derrick Sherwin Bailey|
(30 June 1910 – 9 February 1984) U.K.
Bailey was born in a small town of Alcester in Warwickshire. He was the first Christian theologian to re-evaluate the traditional understanding of the Biblical prohibitions regarding homosexuality. His famous book - of which all subsequent writers on this topic have had to take careful account - Homosexuality and the Western Christian Tradition, was published in 1955. His book was the first scholarly work to challenge in detail traditional interpretations of Biblical pasages ostensibly related to homosexuality. Bailey died in Wells in Somerset.
