Baudri de Bourgueil
(1045 - 1130) France
Writer, humanist
Baudri of Meung-sur-Loire, abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Saint Peter in Bourgueil, and later Archbishop of Dol in Brittany. He wrote over 200 poems, most of them addressed to men. Baudri proudly boasts:
I wrote to maids, and wrote to lads no less,
Some things I wrote, 'tis true, which treat of love;
And songs of mine have pleased both he's and she's.
