Chris is one of Canada's earliest and most visible lesbian activists; she was a member of the Gay Alliance Toward Equality (GATE) and the Toronto chapter of the Coalition for Gay Rights in Ontario (CGRO); and of (and for several years the only woman on) The Body Politic collective, which produced Canada's most important gay publication, The Body Politic, from 1971 to 1987.
