Ruthie met Connie Kurtz in 1967 and since then they are a politically very active couple. Since 1980 they are also lovers.
They were also very active when young, married to men, mothers and began The Mother's Action Comm. of Contello 1,2,&3 for parks, schools and pollution . They began speaking out for lesbian and gay rights in the middle 70's, as members of the "Coalition for Gay and Lesbian Rights". They have been for 5 years the NY State NOW Lesbian Rights Task force co-chairs.
They were litigants, with other two couples, in the domestic partnership lawsuit for medical and dental benefits from NYC Board of Education, and won after 6 years. This took them to be spokespersons on many TV talk shows, cable, radio shows. They have been honored for their efforts.
For the past 25 years they have had a counseling center, "The Answer is Loving".
They also have, with a partner, a tee shirt business called "Not So Subtle Tees". This gives them an opportunity to get their political messages out. They went to the Women's conference in Beijing. Both have given many workshops to the GLBT community and the straight community on "The importance of Being" or "Is there life after coming out".
Ruthie and Connie are active members of the glbt synagogue, congregation beth simchot torah. They are most proud of their families: 5 children who have more than blessed them with 16 grand children. Connie is becoming a known artist at this time of life. Ruthie is a "jock" with a brain. A documentary is out about their lives, "Ruthie and Connie: everyroom in the house."
