Born in Flint, Michigan. Sandra is a graduate of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Toured with the 1999 Lilith Fair as the only comedienne. "She's like jazz. She created her own beat." - friend and fellow comedian Paul Mooney. Sandra gave birth to a daughter, Cicely Yasin, in july 1998. Cicely Yasin is a Moroccan name and its Hebrew name is Rachel. Sandra BernhardBisexual time bomb Bernhard has had one of entertainment's most varied careers. She is a successful novelist, singer, actress, and comedian. She has appeared on TV, in the movies, and on stage. And that's only the beginning. Her biggest current project is her daughter. Her climb to career stability has been an unusually active one.

Bernhard began life in Michigan, then moved to Arizona, the scene of her adolescence. From there it was off to L.A., where she worked as a manicurist and tried out material at local comedy clubs. She was soon discovered and whisked off to Hollywood.

Sandra BernhardBy this time she had already published her first novel, which has been followed by two others.

She gave a star turn in the film King of Comedy which led to more movie work, mostly in independents. She also wrote and performed in her first one-woman show, Without You I'm Nothing, which was made into a film and a hit album. She appeared on Roseanne for five years, giving life to a realistic bisexual character who helped bring queer sexuality to national attention, and has also guested on a number of TV shows portraying both queer and straight characters.

In '98 she debuted her second one-woman show, I'm Still Here... Damn It, which garnered critical acclaim for its vaudevillian mix of songs, biting social commentary, and personal history. Her next venture was a TV series, the Sandra Bernhard Experience.

Sandra BernhardCompletely original performer whose in-your-face approach to comedy is offputting but frequently rewarding.

Gaptoothed, with frizzy hair, the striking but unattractive Bernhard won't be tapped to play conventional leads, it's safe to say.

She worked as a Beverly Hills manicurist in the 1970s to supplant her budding career as a stand-up comic, and, following a less-than-memorable debut in Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams, stunned moviegoers with a riveting performance as a psychotic fan in The King of Comedy.

She has since appeared in the critically acclaimed Without You I'm Nothing, a film version of her thought-provoking, one-woman show about modern pop culture.

She was one of the few bright spots in Hudson Hawk, playing the wacky wife of equally amusing Richard E. Grant.

She has also written two books featuring her distinctive humor.
