George Harrold Carswell
(December 22, 1919 - July 13, 1992) U.S.A.
Jurist
Born in Irwinton, Georgia, Judge nominated to the U.S. Supreme court by Richard Nixon in 1970; his nomination was rejected by the Senate (51-45) because, among other things, he was regarded as an advocate of racial segregation.
Carswell was arrested in 1976 after allegedly soliciting a plainclothes police officer outside a shopping mall men's room in Tallahassee. After his arrest in Florida, Carswell hecked into a local psychiatric hospital. The rest room where he was arrested became a popular local tourist attraction and eventually had to be closed.
