Christian was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He is a singer and actor best known for his role as Giovanni Méndez López in Rebelde. The success of Mexican soap Rebelde led to the band RBD, which is gaining success in the United States. Although Christian became famous with Rebelde, he appeared in another popular telenovela, Clase 406 as Fercho along with his Rebelde co-stars Dulce María, Anahí, and Alfonso Herrera.

Christian ChávezThe website latingossip.com published the pictures of Christian's marriage with a man, held in New Brunswick (Canada) in 2005, the year in which gay marriages became legal in Canada. Cristian said on March, 2007, the photos showed a part of him that he had not been willing to discuss previously" in fear of rejection, of criticism, but especially for my family and its consequences"

On 30 March 2007, after Chavez's announcement, Ricky Martín told The Associated Press of his solidarity with Chavez's public declaration, saying, "Life is too short to live closed up, guarding what you say." Chavez, the singer continued, "has to be free in many aspects. I wish him much strength."

In a letter on his website, Christian wrote:

"I don't want to keep on lying and lie to myself because of fear, I love what I do and singing is my life, my passion. I would never dream of doing anything else. I feel bad for not having shared this withall my fans before, as they are the ones that worry and it is because of them that I decided to be honest."
