Conradin Hohenstaufen of Suede
(Mars 25, 1252 - October 29, 1268) Germany
Bavarian prince
Conrad V Hohenstaufen Duke of Suede, born in Wolfstein, Bavaria, grandson of the Emperor Frederick II, Conradin was the titular king of Jerusalem from 1254 to 1268 as Conrad III.
He was also king of Sicily from 1254 to 1268 as Conrad II , and the last of the Hohenstaufen, came in Italy at the death of Manfredy and the Imperial Party gathered around him.
He received a triumphal welcome in Rome.
But near the Fucino he was defeated by the army of the king of Sicily, Charles of Anjou.
He succeeded in fleeing, but was betrayed and captured at Tagliacozzo and handed over to the king of Sicily, and after a formal trial, a real farce, he was beheaded in the Market Suare in Naples.
His lover and adviser, Frederick of Baden, chose to be executed with him; the two men are buried together in the church of the monastery of Santa Maria del Carmine, Naples, and their burial place became a shrine for gay lovers of later centuries.
