Consolidated is an activist recording and performing project directed by Adam Sherburne. Formed in 1988 with Mark Pistel and Phil Steir the group have released numerous albums and logged countless miles touring in North America and Europe promoting social justice through music.

Consolidated's musical evolution has drawn from a wide spectrum of influences including rock, hip-hop, jazz, techno, noise and blues. Thematically and lyrically the group have maintained a consistent trajectory while exploring the connectedness of different forms of oppression and the principle of linking diverse social justice movements.

The group's album Dropped was produced by Sherburne with original member Mark Pistel and the music ranges from Delta Blues to Dub to Industrial. The lyrics focus on the pathological consequences of manhood, homophobia, domestic violence, prostitution and pornography suicide and violent male rites of passage. All this was inspired by the Crisis Line's Men's Training Program and by the writings of New York activist John Stoltenberg.

In addition to performing at benefit concerts, contributing material for benefit albums and being advocates for animal rights groups and abuse survivor communities on a global scale, Consolidated are active in their own community. Based in Portland, Oregon, members volunteer for the pioneering feminist community that includes the Portland Women's Crisis Line, The Council for Prostitution Alternatives, and The Sexual Exploitation Project.

The group features an open forum with it's audience at all shows and encourages this dialogue with the public. In concert Sherburne's guitar and vocals are joined by drummer Todd Bryerton and bassist Michael Dunne.

The members of Consolidated have devoted themselves to singing protest songs, using intelligence and humour to directly attack the oppression and stupidity bred by global capitalism. Sherburne is still an excellent lyricist: even when he isn't railing against The Man but simply bemoaning how sucky his life is, he's articulate, witty, even poetic.

Consolidated have released their new CD Free Music Or Stockpiled Death (Consolidated Music, 2003) as a free MP3 download (entire album or individual tracks). 2003 sees Consolidated, once described as 'Front 242 meets Public Enemy', continue to rail against music industry exploitation, and promote their Frankfurt School-influenced critique of media sound-bites and issues-based activism.
