He was involved with the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) in the 1970s and became a key GLF administrator and fundraiser. He helped to organise the 1972 Pride march through London. From then on he wore a hat at the marches and attached Pride badges for each year. The hat was on display in August 1999 at the London Museum in an exhibition of lesbian and gay history.
