Née Billie Cassin at St. Antonio, Texas, she had an affair with novelist Jacqueline Susann - both of them were bisexual.
She was originally a dancer, but made her name from 1925 in dramatic films, and was revealed by F. Niblo in Dream of Love (Adriana Lecouvreur's story). She received the Oscar Prize in 1945. Another film that made her famous is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.
