Danilo, born Daniel Dixon, grew up in a small town near San Francisco. He had a good childhood, but left town after high school. As a teenager he worked for three years in a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco to be able to afford to move to Europe for a year as soon as he got out of high school. He moved to Germany for a couple of years. In Europe he was "exposed" to homosexuality but didn't act on his desire until he returned to California, losing his virginity at 19. "San Francisco was a great place to come out," he says. "It's so natural there. Gay people are everywhere."

Initially, he was approached by the heads of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in San Francisco and they wanted to cut his hair. Eventually, he sas hired in a salon in San Francisco, called Paul Brown, and he worked there until 1980, then moved to New York. There, Danilo was hired in a salon opening in Soho called John Dellaria and worked there for six years.

When Danilo's father learned he was gay, he told his son about a homosexual experience he almost had when he was younger. "My father is a beautiful man," Danilo explains. "He went on a date with this guy who put the moves on him. My father beat him up and showed him out of his car onto some country road. He kept this secret for so long. and when he finally released it, it created a bond between us."

Ultimately it took years for his parents to understand his homosexuality. "Starting when I was 20," he says, "I had a lover for five years. Because our relationshio was good, it helped my parents understand, as I learned, they learned."

Danilo then moved to Hollywood. He worked with Whitney, Mariah, Lady Gaga. He was associated with Gwen Stefani. They worked together for 19 years.
