Born Edward Everett Tanner III. Author and butler whose1955 best-selling novel, Auntie Mame, became a hit on both the Broadway stage and the Hollywood screen; he became the first author in history to have three novels on the New York Times best-seller list at the same time (1956); in his later life as a butler (he called himself Edwards), he ran the household of Ray and Joan Kroc, owners of the McDonald's restaurant chain; subject of the 2000 biography Uncle Mame by Eric Myers.
