Beverley Ditsie grew up in Orlando West, Soweto.
Ditsie was one of the founding members of the Gay and Lesbian Organization of the Witwatersrand (GLOW), which was launched in 1989. The organization was one of the first lesbian and gay organization in South Africa to affiliate to the United Democratic Front in line with GLOW's strong anti-apartheid stance.
GLOW organized Africa's first Gay and Lesbian Pride March, which took place in Johannesburg in 1990. Ditsie addressed the United Nations on lesbian issues at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. She also testified at the UN Global Women's Tribunal, in New York City in 1998. She currently works as a journalist and documentary filmmaker.
