Nancy Diuguid

Actress, and director for theatre, opera, and film
Nancy Diuguid was born in the USA but moved to Britain in 1972. She trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama. She acted for Jerzy Grotowski's Polish Laboratory Theatre. She joined Gay Sweatshop in 1976. In 1977 she and Kate Crutchley formed Women's Project Company, a group subsidised by the Arts Council to encourage women writers.
She moved from women's and gay theatre to more mainstream work. She worked as a director in a number of London theatres including the Royal Court, as associate director at Hampstead Theatre, the English National Opera. She has also worked abroad.
She twice won the Time Out 'O1 for London' awards for theatre productions. She also won Munich and Edinburgh Festival awards for theatre productions. She has been involved in new work by Timberlake Wertenbaker, Louise Page, Howard Brenton, Noël Greig, and Franz Xavier Kroetz.
