Maureen Duffy
(October 21, 1933 - living) U.K.

Writer
Born in Worthing, Sussex, the daughter of Grace Wright and Cahia Duffy, an Irish labourer who left soon after her birth. Until the outbreak of WWII, when she was evacuated to Wiltshire, she was raised in London by her mother's extended family.
Duffy was very close to her mother who encouraged her daughter's interest in writing stories and poetry from an early age. In 1956 Duffy received a BA from King's College, London. At her final year at university she got married, a marriage that ended when she was 28.
Following university Duffy went to Italy to teach English. She then taught in various South London schools for five years. writing plays and poetry at the same time. From 1964 onwards Duffy dealt more openly with homosexuality in her fiction. Much respected in mainstream literary circles, she is less well known among lesbian readers than she deserves to be.
Her work includes:
- That's How It Was (1962)
- A Single Eye (1964)
- The Microcosm (1966)
