Choreographer and dancer
Duncan was an influential pioneer of American modern dance, she adopted an expressive, free form, dancing barefoot and wearing a loose tunic, inspired by the ideal of hellenic beauty. She toured extensively, often returning to Russia after her initial success there in 1905, but died in an accident when her long scarf was caughr in the wheel of a car.
