Jérôme (Hieronimus) Duquesnoy
(July 6, 1602 - October 24, 1654) Belgium
Sculptor
Flemish sculptor and engraver, born in Brussels. His father, with the same name, made the "Manneken Pis Fountain" in Brussels. A court sculptor at Flanders, he was the younger brother of fellow sculptor François Duquesnoy.
His end came on the heels of a persistent rumor circulating through conservative Ghent that Duquesnoy was "misusing" two young boys in the chapel where he was working. Duquesnoy vigorously denied the charges brought against him, but the two boys confirmed the rumors.
Jérôme the younger was arrested, convicted of the crime of sodomy, and was first strangled to death and then burnt on a stake.
