Andrea Dworkin
(September 26, 1946 - April 9, 2005) U.S.A.
Anti-pornography activist and writer
Author of eleven books, including Intercourse, Pornography, and most recently, Scapegoat: The Jews, Israel, and Women's Liberation, Andrea Dworkin was a well-known feminist and activist.
Viewed as a leader in the campaign against pornography, Dworkin - along with legal scholar, Catherine A. MacKinnon - drafted legislation declaring pornography to be a form of sexual discrimination.
In her 1997 article, "Rage and Reason," (The New Republic), Martha C. Nussbaum stated that "Dworkin's prose is a powerful instrument... She is inspired to indignation and grief by the evils of violence against the female body."
Educated at Bennington College, Andrea Dworkin was living in New York City, where she continued to write about issues concerning women, pornography, and the U.S. Constitution, up to her death.
