Richard Dyer studied French and worked in the theatre before doing research in cultural studies at Birmingham University. Has published books on gay cinema, Hollywood, and other topics such as disco music and men's knickers. Editor of' Gays and Film in 1984, and author of Now You See It. Studies on Lesbian and Gay Film. He wrote Fashioning Change: Gay Men's Style in the 1994 collection of essays "Stonewall 25". Richard Dyer appeared as a talking head in Channel 4 television's documentary, The Celluloid Closet shown 5th. September, 1996.
