Edith Hamilton (1867-1963) moved (in 1924 ?) to New York where she lived with long time friend and former student Doris Fielding Reid. They lived together for about 60 years.
The two women cohabited in Maine, on Park Avenue in New York City, and finally in Washington, D.C. Together, they raised Reid's nephew, Dorian. After her death, in 1964, her long-time companion Doris Fielding Reid published the book "Edith Hamilton: An Intimate Portrait".
Doris was the vice president of the investment firm Loomis Sayles & Company. She was a stockbroker.
Doris died ten years later in Lenox Hill, New York.
