Harvey Forbes Fierstein (June 6, 1954 - living) U.S.A. Actor, playwright and female impersonator Born in Brookly, New York, Harvey Fierstein is an openly gay writer, playwright and actor, who studied under Ira Gershwin at one time. He appeared in drag shows in various New York City clubs and bars during the 1970s, and played an asthmatic lesbian in Andy Warhol's only play Pork in 1971. His best-known work is probably Torch Song Trilogy, originally a Broadway play (it won an Obie while off-Broadway, followed by a Tony on Broadway). This play later became a feature film (in which he starred in the role as Arnold, the drag queen), with Anne Bancroft, Matthew Broderick, and Brian Kerwin. He also wrote the musical version of La cage aux folles. Fierstein's other acting work includes Garbo Talks, as well as the voice of Homer Simpson's male secretary (who is gay) on The Simpsons. In 1983 he won Tony Awards for best actor and best play for Torch Song Trilogy. Fierstein did a speech at the opening of the Gay Games in Amsterdam in 1998. Harvey 's follow up, Safe Sex became a television movie for HBO called Tidy Endings. More recently Fierstein can be seen playing Robin Williams's openly gay brother in Mrs. Doubfire with openly gay comic Scott Capurro as his lover. Harvey lives alone in Connecticut.
