Vice president of Showtime Networks; former Vice President of Business Operations at Showtime Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Viacom Inc.
As the executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Garry has, since 1997, worked towards making the airwaves a more inclusive, visible place for the GLBT community.
Under Garry's watch, GLAAD has grown into a force to be reckoned with, now featuring not only an L.A.-based entertainment division, but a New York-based news media division.
Joan M. Garry resides in New Jersey with her partner of 24 years and their three children. Her landmark 1993 court challenge to New Jersey's second-parent adoption law made Garry the first lesbian in the state to adopt her partner's biological children.
In her post-GLAAD career, Garry hopes to continue to use her voice to advocate for social justice and fairness. In that spirit, Garry recently became the first female singer of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus.
