Danny Grossman

Danny Grossman was born in San Francisco. In 1960, he began studying and performing modern dance with Gloria Unti. He was invited to join the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York in 1963 and spent the next 10 years performing and touring with the Taylor Company. In 1973, David Earle, co-founder of the Toronto Dance Theatre invited him to Toronto where he joined the faculty of York University and worked with the Toronto Dance Theatre as a guest artist and choreographer.
In 1977, following the tremendous success of the première of Higher, he formed his own company. He has since created a repertoire of more than 40 works for the Company and has toured and performed with them across Canada and internationally. He has received a number of awards for his work. Mr. Grossman presently holds the position of Adjunct Professor, Department of Dance, York University.
Works by Mr. Grossman have been performed by the Paris Opera Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and The National Ballet of Canada. His work has also been performed by young dancers in modern dance training institutions. In 1990 the Danny Grossman Dance Company expanded its mandate and began reviving and performing significant works by Canadian and American dance artists.
