Ben Harvey was born in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Early in his career, Harvey worked at WBRU, Brown University's commercial alternative rock station, where he started as a DJ at the age of nineteen. Fellow notable alumni include Chris Berman, anchor, ESPN and ABC Sports; Stephen Hill, executive VP of programming at BET; and Alison Stewart, daytime anchor for MSNBC and former VJ for MTV.

Harvey's first major-market radio stint was at Y100 in Philadelphia, where he worked the evening shift starting in 2001. In 2003, Harvey joined 92.3 K-Rock (WXRK) in New York City, where he worked the prime-time evening slot. When K-Rock changed formats to become the all-talk Free-FM (WFNY-FM) in 2005, Harvey left the station. At that time, Harvey served as a correspondent on LGBT-centric Radio with a Twist program.

Presently, Harvey is an on-air host and personality for the LGBT Cable television service, here!. At here! he hosts a number of programs including here! News, here! at the Movies and podcasts, including fan discussions for the here! original series Dante's Cove and The Lair.

The Ben and Dave Show, which premiered online at heretv.com in October 2007, features Harvey along with his co-host, comedian Dave Rubin. A televised version of the show premiered on here! on March 14, 2008.

In 2007, Harvey was the recipient of the NLGJA Excellence in Online Journalism Award for his role as host of here! At the Movies, along with Director Michael Eldridge and Producer Eric Feldman.

He is presently an on-air host for the LGBT-themed here! television network.
