Alison Hennegan began her PhD thesis, Literature and the Homosexual Cult, 1890-1920 in Cambridge in 1970, but involvement in the emerging gay movement led her to abandon her research in 1974. In 1977 she became the Literary Editor of Gay News. Hennegan wrote Who are You Calling a Lesbian? Some Thoughts on Lesbians in Literature for the Gay Left Collective in 1980.
Alison is a lecturer at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow-Commoner of Trinity Hall. She is also a prominent campaigner for gay and lesbian rights in the UK and a journalist.
