Senior Lecturer in Social Work & Welfare at the University of Central Lancashire, he teaches an undergraduate level 3 module on "Lesbian & Gay Studies" primarily to students of social welfare, applied social studies, social policy, women's studies and community studies.
With Janet McDermott, he co-edited Lesbian and Gay Fostering and Adoption: Extraordinary Yet Ordinary (1998), and he has written several articles on lesbians and gay men as foster or adoptive parents, most recently Good Lesbian, Bad Lesbian... Regulating Heterosexuality in Fostering and Adoption Assessments in "Child & Family Social Work", vol. 5 no. 2, pages 157-168. He is a founder member of the Northern section of the Lesbian & Gay Foster & Adoptive Parents Network.
