Painter, photographer and designer
 Painter, photographer, and stage designer born in Bradford, Yorkshire into what he has described as a "radical working-class family". Trained at Bradford School of Art and the Royal Collee of Art, he played an important part in the establishment of the Pop Art movement. His work has a bright, childlike sense of colour, and characterized by a gentler wit. He has also designed sets for opera houses including Glyndebourne, La Scala - Milan, and Metropolitan Opera House - New York.
 David moved to California in 1964 and he is now working and living there (where he lives with his lover, Peter Schlesinger). Jack Hazan made a documentary in 1974 on Hockney under the title: A bigger splash. He wrote a book - Secret Knowledge.
