Janet Holland has general research interests in sexuality, education, youth, gender and class. She was Senior Research Officer in the Social Science Research Unit at the Institute of Education at the University of London. She was also a Lecturer in Education at the Open University. She became a lecturer in sexuality and sexual culture at South Bank University.
With other members of the Women Risk and AIDS (WRAP) team she published Coming to Conclusions: Power and Interpretation in Researchiing Young Women's Sexuality and Power and Desire: the Embodiment of Female Sexuality. She was co-editor with Maud Blair of Identity and Diversity: Gender and the Experience of Education.
She was co-editor with Lisa Adkins of Sex, Sensibility and the Gendered Body (1996). She was co-editor with Jeffrey Weeks of Sexual Cultures: Communities, Values and Intimacy (1996). Both of these latter publications were discussed by Steven Seidman, (1998), in the first issue of the journal "Sexualities".
