Christian de la Huerta
(? - living) Cuba - U.S.A.

Author
Born and raised Catholic in communist Cuba, his parents applied to the communist authorities for emigration. Once in the United States, living in central Georgia and initially unable to speak the language, Christian painfully stood out at the age of 10. Three years later, finally beginning to fit in after learning English and perfecting a Southern accent, de la Huerta relocated to Miami, Florida with his family.
Coming into puberty, Christian was also beginning to deal with what remains today one of the ultimate "outsider" roles, that of sexual outsider. Christian entertained notions of becoming a priest; he struggled, however, with his sexual orientation and its relationship to his religious beliefs.
Graduating with honors from Tulane University, Christian holds a degree in Psychology. He has been a seminar leader and group facilitator for the past twelve years. He is author of the best-selling and critically-acclaimed Coming Out Spiritually. Chosen by Publishers Weekly as one of the ten best religion books of 1999, the book was also nominated for a Lambda Award. Christian's writing has appeared in The Advocate, Hero, Genre, and other publications.
Christian is founder and president of "Q-Spirit", an international network of gays and lesbians in spirituality. He is also owner of Mercurio Communications, a publicity and promotions firm specializing in gay and lesbian authors as well as the psychology/self-help/spirituality genre. He is currently single and lives in San Francisco.
