Born in San Francisco, California, author of the best-selling biography The Nun's Story (1956) the best selling novel later made into an award winning movie starring Audrey Hepburn (1959) and The Undiscovered Country: A Spiritual Adventure (1967) a description of her years as a student of G. I. Gurdjieff. She had a 21 year-long relationship with Marie-Louise Habets (ex-nun). Kathrin died in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.
