Mia was born in Bergen. Mia's father is a famous producer of rock music and was also bass player in a couple of Norwegian rock bands in the 80's. Mia began to play handball as an 8 year old in Løv-ham, Bergen. Later she went to the clubs Gjerpen and Tertnes.
Mia once studied archeology. However, in summer of '99 she gave up the study before she had finished it. As exams approached, she suddenly got an urgent need to travel and take a break. It was also at that time she received a better offer - that of joining the Norwegian national team. When she was suddenly called in to the national team, she was working as a bartender on The Garage.
During the 3 years she's been part of the Norwegian national team, she has made a rocket career. Two gold medals and a bronze she's collected for herself as well as being recognized as one of the top players of the team. A good example was her heroic deed in the bronze match at the Olympics in Sydney, where the victory was won due to her crazy goal in the very last second of the match.
Winner of a bronze medal in the 2000 Olympics; she and her partner Camilla Andersen of Denmark made Olympic history by becoming the first spouses to compete against each other as Norway beat Denmark 19-17 in the opening round of the handball competition.
There were many conflicts in her negotiations with Tertnes and their contract, problems with a commercial for chewinggum and finally when she wanted to change clubs in favour of FIF and Tertnes would not let her go. She was actually close to getting thrown out of the national team. Thus Mia left Norway for Denmark.
There are precious medals in the Andersen-Hundvin household. Gold for Camilla and bronze for Mia. These two go in as a single entry since they're legally married in Denmark.
According to Sports Illustrated, Andersen had been the lover of handball legend Anja Anderson after they won the gold for Denmark in 1996. Hundvin had been named by one publication as Norway's sexiest woman. Their "acquaintanceship,'' as Sports Illustrated dubbed it, blossomed into love in 2001.
Andersen and Hundvin have divorced and are no longer together as of August 2003. After the break-up with Camilla, Mia is playing for the club Aalborg in Jutland. A very long way from Copenhagen, where she will continue to live and finish her education at the Technical School of Copenhagen, but Mia is ready to travel that far in order to join a team in the build-up phase. Mia lives in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.
