Priginally from Baltimore, Maryland, a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University. In 1993-94 she spent an academic year at Stanford University as a John S. Knight Fellow, one of 12 US journalists selected each year to study at the Palo Alto campus.
Since 1983, she moved to Boston, to work as a copy editor for the Boston Globe. Member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA). Johnson took part in the groundbreaking NABJ conference session dealing with lesbian and gay issues. Johnson now runs her own Internet Consulting company.
