Writer, teacher and activist
Kantrowitz is a gay activist; he wrote Under the Rainbow, and Growing Up Gay. Co-founder of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and was a vice-president of the Gay Activist Alliance in 1971.
He teaches creative writing at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York, and is a widely published gay journalist and essayist.
His personal, political, and literary papers have been collected for the Gay and Lesbian Archive of the Fifth Avenue branch of the New York Public Library. He lives in New York City with his lover, Dr. Lawrence Mass.
