Christophe Louis Léon Juchault de Lamoricière, born at Nantes. He was sent in Algeria (1830), where he organized the Zouave corps (infantry soldiers from the Berber Kabyle tribe of Zouaves). He took back from Africa a taste for men love. In 1848, Lamoricière took part to the revolt against the king Louis Philippe.
Exiled, he went to Rome and became the Commander of the Pope's army (1859), but lost the Castelfidardo battle against the Italian army, who then could take Rome (1870) and unite it at the new Italy kingdom as capital.
