James Law is a certified financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors. He specializes in personal financial planning, including tax-reduction, investment and retirement strategies, and asset allocation and estate preservation for his clients, of whom 50 percent are estimated to be gay.
In 1993, Law began to pull together like-minded American Express employees to fulfill the unique financial planning needs of the often-underserved LGBT community. He helped forge a 300-person team - and was instrumental in recruiting these mostly gay planners - who work with gay and lesbian individuals and same-sex couples interested in making the most of their money during their peak earning years.
Additionally, Law was one of the primary architects of American Express' national LGBT marketing initiative, as well as the company's move to direct over $1 million to the funding of LGBT causes over the past four years. He is also very active with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and is on the Amex Philanthropy Board.
Law is one of the 2001 gfn.com 25, a listing by the Gay Financial Network of the 25 most influential out gay and lesbian executives in corporate America.
