Laura had served as Vice-Chair, then Chair, of the Vancouver Park Board from 1996 to 2002. While on the Park Board, Laura took on a number of initiatives for the GLBT community, including ensuring that the AIDS memorial was erected at Sunset Beach, advocating for a Gay Youth Worker as part of the staff of the Park Board, and working to plant a memorial tree for Tony McNaughton.
Further, her experience with the Ministry of Human Resources as a Social Program Officer in the West End District Office reinforced her commitment and compassion to all of Vancouver's citizens. Laura's achievement is most notable is within the GLBT community, persons with disabilities and HIV/AIDS, the Dr. Peter Centre, BCPWA, and Project Sustain.
