Alison was born in Basildon Essex, and started her pop career in 1981 as half of the electropop duo Yazoo who had several hits. In 1983 Yazoo split and Alison Moyet started a solo career, in 1984 releasing her debut album Alf, which was a big success in Britain reaching number one in the album charts. And also launching the hit singles Invisible and All cried out. In 1985 she performed at the Live Aid concert.

In 1986 Alison had another big UK hit with the single Is this love. And the following year more hits followed with the singles Weak in the presence of Beauty and Love letters and her second solo album Raindancing was also released. Alison Moyet's last album, Essex, was released in 1994.

Although Alison continued to write and record music, and has guested over the years with such diverse talents as James Brown, Tricky and the Lightning Seeds, this was her new last album release until now. Two retrospectives, a singles collection in 1995 and The Essential in 2001 have served as a reminder of her talent.

2001 saw Alison make her acting debut, starring alongside Denise Van Outen in the hit West End musical Chicago. This return to the public eye persuaded her it was time to release the album she had been working on for three years. She signed to Sanctuary Records and Hometime, was released in 2004.
