David Roy Newhouse|
(? - living) Canada
David is a member of the Onondaga Nation of the Six Nations of the Grand River, he was born near Brantford, Ontario, and he grew up in a traditional Longhouse environment. David has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science (1975) and a graduate degree in Business Administration (1978), both from the University of Western Ontario. He is the first Status Indian to receive an MBA in Canada.
The Onondaga are the philosophers of the Iroquois Confederacy, often looked at by others in a somewhat sceptical fashion for their long and esoteric dissertations and deliberations.
He spent a decade working for the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in the 1980s. For most of that time, he was the Director of Housing. He is at present professor of Native Studies at Trent University.
His research interests are focused on the way in which Aboriginal traditional thought and western thought are coming together and creating modern Aboriginal societies. His current exploration is on the development of Aboriginal democracies.
