Ulrike Ottinger

Painter, film and theater director, and camerawoman

She was born Ulrike Weinberg in Konstanz. She had no formal training in film, but she studied art in Munich and Paris. Since 1973 Ulrike has been living in Berlin. During the rise of women's film in Germany during the 1970s, Ottinger was one of the few filmmakers directly to address lesbian themes.
