Larry, a fat, effeminate kid, left the mining town of Hibbing, Minnesota to go to California and become the well-known drag queen and the gay icon Chi Chi LaRue director of dozens of gay adult movies, who changed the face of gay porn.
He is the author of the memoir Making it Big: Sex Stars, Porn Films, and Me and is profiled in the documentary Sex Becomes Her: The True Life Story of Chi Chi LaRue.
Chi Chi had a relationship with star Falcon model Joey Stefano who took his own life, aged 26.
"I'm not a militant fag. In regards to porn, I feel it's like liquor. There for consumption. If you don't want to see it, don't watch. I think I live life vicariously through my boys. I mean, I get my share of action, but face it: I'm a three-hundred-pound drag queen."
