Monica Palacios, of Mexican descent, is a writer/performer based in Los Angeles who was awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship for 2003-2004, from the Center for Chicano Studies at UC Santa Barbara. She was named by Out Magazine as one of their Out 100 for 2002 for promoting positive Queer images.
She collaborated with Tongues, a collective of queer women of color to produce several events to raise awareness for a variety of issues. The Latin Pride Foundation and many other institutions have also honored Palacios.
Tentaciones Magazine named her one of the 16 most influential LGBT Latinas/os for 2002 for her activism, achievements, visibility and leadership. Her writing appears in many Latino and Queer Anthologies. Her show Queer Soul is a 20 year retrospective. Palacios is an adjunct professor at UCLA and at UC Riverside.
