Marge PiercyBorn in Detroit, Michigan, into a working-class Jewish family, in 1958 Piercy gained an MA from Northwestern University.

Married three times, Piercy's writing has been infused by her left-wing politics and her desire for a better world.

In the 1960s she became active in the women's movement. Her early novels reflected her engagement with the interrogation of conventional gender roles as evidenced in Small Changes.

This position led to one of the key novels of the feminist science fiction wave of the 1970s and early 1980s: Woman on the Edge of Time.
