Anna Rochester
(1880 - 1966) U.S.A.
Labour-reform activist
Anna Rochester and Grace Hutchins committed themselves with intense passion to the cause of economic justice. Hutchins and Rochester performed an extraordinary ideological journey from Christianity to Christian Socialism and then Communism.
Grace Hutchins and Anna Rochester dedicated their lives not only to the cause of economic justice but, in a deeply committed relationship lasting 45 years, to each other.
At a time when lesbianism was not acceptable to Cristian or Communist doctrine, the pair never did officially "come out". The women's relationship had the aspect of a romantic friendship in an era when such intense relationships between single women were accepted as natural, especially among social activists.
