Jason Ruta was born in Cooks Creek, Manitoba and grew up inthe outskirts of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. He attended the Vancouver Film School in spring 2007.

Jason's on-air television work includes commercials and notable programming such as U8TV's 2002 installment of "The Lofters" which aired on The Life Network in Canada. Unlike season one's Mathieu Chantelois, who was openly gay from the very beginning of his time on the show, Ruta came out as gay during his time in the loft. The show followed Jason and 7 other Canadians who lived entirely on camera, and could be viewed 24/7 via internet streaming.
He hosted the magazine series So Gay TV for U8TV and PrideVision, but later left The Lofters after being voted out by viewers, and subsequently worked as a radio DJ for CING-FM in Hamilton.
His resume includes several years with Corus Entertainment, having been a part of CMT and YTV and lastly serving as host of the Weekend Morning Show on Toronto/Hamilton's FM country radio station, 95.3.
In September of 2007 Jason signed on with the E! News Weekend. Jason is also credited with acting in several feature films, theatre and commercial work.
