J.D. Samson

J.D. Samson, is the last member to have joined the feminist, lesbian, pop music trio Le Tigre. When she was in the 5th grade she had a band called "7 in Heaven and a Real Cool Guy". They played one song called, I'm Leaving over and over again before school for a few weeks.

Other than that, J.D. was not really ever allowed to play music, until she started Classical Guitar lessons when she turned 15. This was one of the most important things that had ever happened to her. I.D. was never in a performing band until she joined Le Tigre.

The trio's line-up was Kathleen Hanna, Jo Fateman, & Sadie, with J.D. running the slide projector. J.D. went on tour with the band as the slide technician/roadie, but it was immediately apparent that she should have a more active role in the performances.

The group was already talking about having her dance and sing back-ups with them on stage when Sadie decided she didn't want to be in Le Tigre anymore.

Since a month long US tour was already booked and Jo had quit her job to do it, they asked J.D. if she would become a full-fledged member of Le Tigre. She formally joined the band for the recording of their second release From the Desk of Mr. Lady and subsequent tours of the States, Europe and Japan.
