Roger was born in St. Marc-Des-Carrières, Québec, the fourth child in a household of four (and Mom's favoured one).
He studied photography in Quebec City, moved to Montreal in 1970 and joined the University of Montreal as photographer at the faculty of architecture urbanism and industrial design.
Roger and his partner Théo were the first same-sex couple in Quebec to be married under the province's new Civil Union Act, on July 18th, 2002.
